On 7-7-07, Live Earth became the largest entertainment event ever produced, raising global awareness of the climate crisis. 24-hours of music and messaging featuring 150 of the world's top artists originating in 10 cities on all seven continents. As supervising producer, Viewfinder founder David Parks implemented the largest global broadcast infrastructure in history, reaching an audience of over 2 billion viewers via hundreds of international television, radio and wireless networks, as well as on the internet through MSN's global networks.
For the 3rd edition of this classic event, the NHL took their annual outdoor game to iconic Fenway Park in Boston, home of the Red Sox. Raising the bar even higher in 2010, fans across North America and the world were treated to an overtime win by the hometown Bruins and a pre-game extravaganza that featured 700+ performers, musicians and local honorees including members of the Boston Fire, Police and EMS Departments, as well as the Boy & Girl Scouts of America and troops from the five branches of the U.S. military. With U.S. and Canadian anthems performed by James Taylor and Daniel Powter respectively, a performance by the legendary Boston band Dropkick Murphys, a memorable fly-over by a B2 Stealth bomber and the post-game announcement of the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, David Parks and Viewfinder were again thrilled to be a part of the creative team that brought this amazing event to life.
Change Begins Within, a benefit concert for the David Lynch Foundation, was recorded live at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. This four-hour event was headlined by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr who performed Beatles songs together for the first time in ten years. The event also featured performances by Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper, Moby, Bettye LaVette, Donavan, Paul Horn and Jim James. Plus, special guests Jerry Seinfeld and Howard Stern. Captured in HD, Viewfinder was privileged to produce the broadcast recording of this historic event.
In three short years, the NHL Winter Classic has become one of the premier events in Sports. Played annually on New Year's Day and broadcast nationally on NBC and internationally on CBC, the Winter Classic takes hockey back to its roots and the great outdoors. Viewfinder's founder David Parks served as Supervising Creative Producer on this critically-acclaimed event which was played at Wrigley Field in Chicago. In paying tribute to Chicago sports, Viewfinder helped develop and implement the pre-game and intermission entertainment, including a tribute to Chicago sport legends, the performance of the U.S. and Canadian National anthems and numerous in-game, sponsored give-aways for the fans. Yahoo Sports' Ross McKeon wrote, "There's never been a perfect game pitched at the 95-year-old Wrigley Field ... but it took the NHL just one try to produce one".
Using the power of film to bring the world together, Pangea Day was a critically acclaimed world-wide event that allowed people often divided by borders, differences and conflicts to see themselves in others and initiate a global conversation for peace. A four-hour program of short films, live music and visionary speakers, Pangea Day broadcast live from six international locations, in seven languages to millions of viewers via the internet, television and mobile devices. As Supervising Producer, David Parks coordinated the massive international broadcast.
For the 2009 presentation of the NHL Awards, the league moved their annual ceremony to the lights and glamour of Las Vegas and the Palms Resort and Casino. David Parks and Viewfinder took the show to a new level producing the ceremony and the live broadcast on CBC and Versus. Hockey's best came together in a transformed Pearl Theatre with "A" list talent, celebrities and music for an unforgettable evening that was the focal point of the Vegas Strip.
This special live episode of the hit A&E series, Criss Angel Mindfreak, originated in Clearwater Beach, Florida. It featured world-renown illusionist Criss Angel chaining himself to the 5th floor balcony of a nine-story building about to be imploded by demolition experts. His Houdini-like escape was broadcast live via a dozen, continuously rolling, non-cut cameras. Viewfinder worked closely with both the network and Angel to produce a mesmerizing and transparent illusion and broadcast.
To kick-off the 2008 hockey season, the NHL went to Detroit, home of the defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings, for the first-ever Face-Off Rocks concert, featuring Def Leppard and a special performance via satellite from Montreal by Alanis Morristte. David Parks and Viewfinder served as Supervising Producer of both the event and the broadcast which aired live during the pre-game and intermissions of the Red Wings home opener. Originating from the historic Fox Theatre, the show aired live on Versus in the U.S. and CBC in Canada.
R.E.M., Van Halen, Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and The Ronettes joined the music elite as they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Performances by these honored groups along with other illustrious rock legends streamed live on Spinner.com with Viewfinder producing the exclusive online broadcast from the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
This very special three-night music event from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah became one of the signature events of the 2008 festival. This packed-to-the-gills, invitation- only event brought filmmakers and musicians together to promote artistic creativity and conversation. Josh Groban, Michelle Branch and Jason Mraz headlined a stellar line-up of Warner Brothers recording artists which included Jack's Mannequin, Tyler Hilton, Missy Higgins, The Honorary Title, Mozella, Melee, Jeremy Lister and Eisley. Viewfinder was the creative driving force behind the event and broadcast which aired on Fuse Network.
For the season finale of Discovery's Planet Green reality show Battleground Earth: Ludacris vs Tommy Lee, a concert event was held to benefit the restoration of Griffith Park in Los Angeles, devastated by wildfires. The event also served as the official launch of the new TV channel Planet Green, the first and only 24-hour eco-lifestyle television network offering more than 250 hours of original green lifestyle programming. The live concert event produced by Viewfinder at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, featured performances by Ludacris, Tommy Lee, Velvet Revolver, Switchfoot, Train, Robby Krieger, Ziggy Marley, Billy Gibbons, Bowling For Soup and Dee Snider.
A season-long journey to find the next great punk band culminated in a live broadcast event on Fuse Network, produced by Viewfinder, from the House of Blues in Hollywood. Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, along with Billy Dufffy of The Cult and punk Bodog recording artist Bif Naked judged as America voted to award the $1-million dollar grand prize and Bodog Music recording contract to the winning band, Fall From Grace.
